Questions about Surety Bonds in Oregon
What are the bonding costs?
How much you will have to pay to obtain your Oregon surety bond depends on the type of bond that you need, and on its amount.
Depending on the required amount, you will have to cover a fraction of it, which is called the bond premium. This percentage is based on your financial standing, including your personal credit score, which is the most important factor.
Applicants who have a good credit score will typically be offered a rate between 1%-4% of the total amount of their bond. By showcasing your business’s fixed and liquid assets, as well as good financial statements, you can further reduce your surety bond cost.
Is it possible to get a bond with problematic finances?
Applicants who have a low credit score, tax liens, or bankruptcies may have difficulties to get bonded because of the higher risk involved. That's why we have created our Bad Credit Surety Bonds program, which gives you a bonding option if your finances are not perfect.
Rates under this program are slightly higher, between 5%-15% of the total amount in order to accommodate the additional risk. Yet, applicants are guaranteed to receive the lowest possible rates due to our close partnerships with a number of A-rated and T-listed surety companies.

Who Needs to Get an Oregon Surety Bond
There are three main types of Oregon surety bonds that you can obtain, which are explained below.
License bonds are a type of bond that businesses and individuals in Oregon often have to obtain before getting licensed. The professionals who need a license bond include auto dealers, mortgage and insurance brokers, contractors, and collection agencies among others.
Contract bonds are bonds that you may have to obtain in order to bid on construction projects, as well as to perform work on them. Most state and federal construction contracts have a strict requirement that contractors get bonded. Many private construction projects also require bonding. Contract bonds guarantee that contractors will perform in accordance with contractual agreement and make due payments to subcontractors and suppliers.
Court bonds may be required by Oregon courts before certain legal procedures take place. For instance, those who wish to appeal a court judgement may need to obtain an appeal or supersedeas bond first. If you get appointed as a fiduciary, you may have to get a fiduciary bond.
