How Much Does a Michigan Contractor License Bond Cost?
The cost of a Michigan contractor license bond ranges from $250 to $2,500. This is based on the $25,000 bond requirement for a security alarm contractor. Most of the bond requirements in Michigan are at the local level, and these bond amounts vary.
You can purchase your contractor license bond at a premium rate rather than paying the full bond amount. As an authorized Michigan surety company, we offer all types of bonds at a cost of 1% to 10% of the bond amount.
We have been providing bonds to our customers in Michigan for over a decade. Bond rates are determined by a review of the applicant’s credit, credentials and financial strength. Because we accept most credit scores, we bond more than 99% of our applicants.
With a 700 credit score or higher, the premium rate will be 1% to 3%. With a 600 to 699 score, the rate will range from 3% to 5%. The rate will be between 5% and 10% for lower credit scores.

Contractor License Bond Requirements in Michigan
Most contractor bond requirements are established and enforced at the local level. However, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs requires security alarm contractors across the state to hold a bond. The regulation is established under the Public Act 330 of 1968.
Specifically, these contractors are required to have a $25,000 surety bond to obtain and hold a license. The obligee is the State of Michigan.
Cities and counties across the state also have surety bond requirements for contractors. These include:
