How Much Does an Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Dealer Bond Cost?

The cost of a motor vehicle dealer bond in Oklahoma, also known as an auto dealer bond, ranges from $100 to $5,000. The state requires bond amounts of $10,000 to $50,000. Several types of bonds are required depending on your type of business. Franchise dealers selling brand-new vehicles are not included in this requirement and do not need a surety bond.

As an authorized surety company in Oklahoma, we offer all types of motor vehicle dealer bonds at a premium. Rather than covering the full cost of your required bond in cash, you can pay a premium rate of 1% to 10%.

You can easily learn about the premium rate available to you by applying online. Your rate is based on important factors like your fixed and liquid assets, your professional experience and your credit scores.

With a credit score of at least 700, the premium rate will be between 1% and 3%. A 600 to 699 credit score qualifies for a premium rate of 3% to 5%. A 5% to 10% rate is available for credit scores of 599 and lower.

Motor Vehicle Dealer License Bond Requirements in Oklahoma

In Oklahoma, new vehicle dealerships are subject to licensing requirements under the authority of the Oklahoma New Motor Vehicles Commission. The state does not have new motor vehicle dealer bond requirements, but it may require up to a $10,000 in-transit surety bond under Administrative Code Title 465.

The Oklahoma Used Motor Vehicle, Dismantler and Manufactured Housing Commission oversees licensing and bond requirements for various categories. Used motor vehicle dealers, wholesale motor vehicle dealers and used motor vehicle crushers need a $25,000 bond, used motor vehicle rebuilders require a $15,000 bond, and used motor vehicle auctions must have a $50,000 bond.

The bonds run continuously. The surety must provide written notice to the principal and the state authority at least 30 days prior to the cancellation date.

How to Renew & Maintain Your Motor Vehicle Bond in Oklahoma

Because Oklahoma motor vehicle dealer bonds are continuous, they remain active until canceled. The surety company will cancel the bond if the premium is not paid annually, and this can result in the suspension of your dealer license.

To help you maintain your bond, we will contact you when each renewal payment is due with payment instructions. Renewal payments can be made online for your convenience.

What Happens If Someone Files a Claim in Oklahoma?

In the event someone files a claim against your business, the claimant must make the claim to your surety company. Through an extensive investigation, the surety company will determine if the claim is valid. Unvalidated claims will be denied.

If a claim is verified, the surety company will pay the claimant. The compensation available to the claimant is capped at the bond’s penal sum. The principal must then reimburse the surety for the full amount of the claim.
