Auto dealers selling more than five vehicles in a 12-month period must register with the New Hampshire Secretary of State. Dealer license applications are processed by the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles. The required auto dealer bond is $25,000.

Licenses are required for the sale of new and used vehicles and motorcycles. They are also needed for auto recyclers, wholesalers and utility dealers. The bond requirement is established by Title XXI, Chapter 261. The obligee is the Department of Public Safety Vision of Motor Vehicles.

An auto dealer bond in New Hampshire is valid through the expiration date. However, the bond premium payment is due annually. Prior to the payment due date, we will contact you with renewal instructions. The dealer license renews on March 31 of every even-numbered year. The auto dealer license may be suspended if the bond is canceled for non-payment.

To make a claim against your New Hampshire auto dealer business, the claimant must get in touch with your surety company directly. Once a claim is made, the surety company will research the claim. If the claim is unsubstantiated by an investigation, it will be denied. 

If a claim is validated, the surety company will pay the claimant up to the bond’s penal sum. The dealer will then reimburse the surety company for the total amount of the claim.
