How Much Does an Alaska Contractor License Bond Cost?

An Alaska contractor license bond costs between $100 and $2,500. Bonds are required for various trades and activities, and bond amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000. Your bond can be purchased at a premium price through a surety company.

Surety bonds are available at a premium rate of 1% to 3% of the bond amount. Bond rates are determined by factors like professional experience, financial strength and credit scores.

Bonds are available for applicants with most credit scores. A rate of 1% to 3% of the required bond amount is available for applicants with a 700 or higher credit score. A 3% to 5% rate is offered to those with a 600 to 699 credit score. With a lower credit score, the rate is between 5% and 10%.

Contractor License Bond Requirements in Alaska

The Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development is the authority for most contractor bonds in the state. This department’s Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing is responsible for general, specialty, mechanical and handyman contractors.

The amounts of these bonds range from $5,000 to $25,000. The bond requirements for these licenses are established under A.S. Chapter 18.18. The bond is continuous and remains active until the surety company cancels it.

The Alaska Department of National Resources also has bond requirements. Specifically, it upholds requirements for a miscellaneous land use bond and a performance land use surety bond. The bond amounts vary.

In addition, the city of Kenai requires a construction and excavation bond. The bond amount is $5,000, and the obligee is the City of Kenai.

Bruno contacted us to buy a handyman contractor license recently. While his credit score was 603, he applied in a matter of minutes and got an instant quote. By paying the premium online, Bruno quickly got the necessary bond and completed the state’s licensing process.
